Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

THE END OF 2017

Tis the Season to be Spartan!
FIRST and foremost, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I hope, like myself, you were able to spend it with family and friends.

Many people often use the term that Christmas is too commercialized. That we concentrate too much on the products. That we have forgotten the spirit of the festive season.

Bollocks!

Sure, there are some who concentrate on the acquisition factor. But I think those to be in the minority.

When I look out upon the world, I see lots of people going to parties and socializing with those who they may not have seen in months. Lots of cheer and merriment.

When I look at the gifts I receive, and I'll be honest, my first impression is "what did I get".

But after a while, those things fade.
But what doesn't disappear is the fun you had with those toys.
These things are conduits into creating lasting memories.

I can still remember my fifth Christmas, and the fun I had with my Dad playing with some product. It's the laughter and the feelings that endure.

As for my Soccer teams, you have brought me many great moments.
And I hope that we have more to come!

LOKOMOTIVE DRAWS FIRST BLOOD

FORMER CHAMPIONS BEAT CURRENT CHAMPIONS IN EPIC ENCOUNTER!

Kevan and Andrew attack the Ball
LOKOMOTIVE vs ENERGIE
This promised to be a high flying affair, and it certainly was.

The action was intense, as the two top rated teams battled it out for first place.

Lokomotive seemed to take the first half easily, conceding a goal on a Penalty Kick, but stealing four in the process.

In the second half, it was all Energie.

The Champions proved that their Cup win was no fluke, getting the score within one.

When the game ended, both sides had completed a grueling match.

DYNAMO
Our lads in Green were up to the task against the third place team.

Goals abounded, and our guys were pocketing their own.

It's great to see them find an offensive strength and take the ball into the opposition's twine!

SPARTAN DERBY REACHES NEW LEVELS

GAME WILL BE FIRST MATCH BETWEEN THE FINALISTS THIS SEASON!
Back in the 2000's when the Cup was decided!
We've come a long way over the years.

Initially, the Spartan Teams were created just to give guys something to do on a Sunday night.

Wives of former players were tired of their men kicking the ball about on the street or against the garage. Usually after copious amounts of alcohol were imbibed.

They formed the team from over aged, over the hill players who just loved the game.

Although those first few years saw no wins and fewer goals, the ball had begun to roll.

Fast forward to modern times, and the Spartan Derby is three teams of men who spend more time drinking in the parking lot than playing.

But...they are having fun...and giving their wives a much needed respite from crazy antics.

The rivalry between the Blacks and Greys have been around for decades, perhaps even centuries.

But one thing is clear.
The winner of the game gets bragging rights.
And the whiner of the game has to wait till the next meeting!

FACEBOOK EXPLODES!!!

LOKOMOTIVE "DARLING" CURTIS SETS SPARTAN PAGE ON FIRE!

Cutis being smothered by the team...he's that huggable!

"I received this call from Facebook," reveals Baron," in the mid afternoon. They tell me they need to shut down the Facebook page for my league due to one post."

Baron takes a sip of his afternoon tea before continuing.

"I race to my tablet, which is really just next to me since I put it down to answer the phone. I'm wondering what happened. They tell me that Curtis is the number one post on their ENTIRE site. It's like a movie, from that point, where I move in slow motion, attempting to ascertain what this all means."

Local hero Curtis, who won Baron's Man of the Match two Sundays ago was trending at #2, just below Donald Trump.

"Unlike the Trumpster," joked Curtis," I have substance and grace. While I may be the best football player at any time, it's important to take things in perspective and not go too hard, or too "curtis" as the guys on Lokomotive like to say.

THINGS NOT FOOTBALL

HOW DO WE DEAL WITH STUFF THAT JUST AIN'T RIGHT?

Being an Official can be Tough work

THE BARON says this...

For those who know me, I've been a player, coach, captain, linesman, owner and lead Referee.

Of all those titles, a Referee was the most difficult thing I ever had to do.

You are to be impartial, run a game for so many minutes (ensuring its smooth execution) and make decisions within seconds (three of the most).

There are many good referees.
There are some excellent referees.
There are a hand full of the best referees.
There are also a handful of the really terrible.

When an official breaks with policy and commits harassment, discrimination or threatens (violence, etc) that Referee needs to be told.
It's not our duty to tell them. T
here are options, including the Referee's Association and the League itself.

No player should ever feel threatened by an official.

If you do find yourself in a spot that doesn't have to do with the game, please alert your Captain, Assistant Captain or me (the Baron).
We will work on getting resolution.

And when reporting the incident, keep to the facts you know.
Hearsay has no bearing on what needs to be done.

A MOMENT WITH BARON

BARON DESCRIBES HIS RATIONALE AND THINKING

Al goes for his 13th Save of the Day!

During the beginning of the year, especially in the early season, we're going to meet many teams.

Some teams will be beneath us.
Many teams will be competitive with us.
A few will be leagues above us.

What you need to do as a team is work on how you want to deliver your brand of football to the two types that are too easy and too hard.

Against easy teams, it's very simple...play to win, but don't play to destroy.
This is one of my sacred rules...we conduct ourselves with honour at ALL times.

If you're up by six, lower your efforts and move people around.
Have fun and don't destroy someone's else's game just because you have a problem with arrogance.

Against the REP and Semi-PRO teams, things get a lot more complex.
You're up against a team that you have absolutely NO chance of winning.
And they'll rack up the score for whatever reason.

As a martial artist, I've always lived my life on who/what has defeated me, not who/what I have defeated.
IF the top three teams are the only ones blowing our teams out...well, that's life in the big city.
That doesn't mean I don't give my 100%...I must,  just to meet their 50%.
But a warrior never gives up on himself (or herself for the ladies reading).
Learn...Adapt...Overcome.

A few of you may not get my view point. And that's OK.
But in the long run, the most fun we'll have is against the teams with which we are competitive.
And next year...with your help...that's where we're headed.

ALL's FAIR IN FOOTBALL AND REF'ing

OUR TEAMS SUFFER SETBACKS -- BUT WE'LL BOUNCE BACK!

It was against Energie from the start
Guys, listen up!

What happened against Energie was a travesty against the game of football.
We know that there was a bias...
And considering the fact that Hangover needed no help, it's a shame that they perpetrated this sham.

As players, we need to make choices.
Sometimes they are the right decisions.
Sometimes they are not.
That's the thing about being human.

We can learn from our mistakes.
We can take that thing that bothers us and use it to motivate us to be something better.

This is the motto for which I have attempted to drive into my life and yours.
The idea that we can start at point A, but move to point B.
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Your future is in your hands.
Navigate the challenges and become better for it.

See you on the field this Sunday!

DYNAMO WIN THEIR FIRST GAME!

BOYS IN GREEN KEEP DISCIPLINE AND FIND THEIR MARK!

Captain Jason goes crazy on the final whistle

Hey Guys!

Another weekend of Sunday Soccer.

Energie vs Red
Listen, we can't play at our constant best. Sometimes we just don't click, and this was one of those days.
We'll get another opportunity to settle accounts, but in the meantime, let's look forward to dishing out some punishment to Hangover96

Lokomotive vs Hangover96
You can say all you want. But this Finalist from last year's League Trophy was clearly the better skilled team.
And that's fine, because they really don't belong in a REC league.

The best thing about playing teams like this is that they expose the little issues that plagues the team.
It's not about age, it's all about skill and communication.
When you guys were communicating, and acting as a team, they were not getting the easy shots.
Remember that lesson...it'll serve you well in the teams to come.

Dynamo vs Azul FC
Congrats to the team for pulling together in a big win.
Azul thought that they'd have an easy game...and you proved them wrong.
Team work on this really offensive team should prove the difference in future games.

Keep up the great work!

FACEBOOK
Our Facebook page is up and running.
I encourage everyone to have a look and support their teams!

ENERGIE REMAINS UNDEFEATED

SPIRITED SECOND GAMES SEE ENERGIE FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS

Saul, Steve, Loli and Andrew rejoice on their goals

Sunday Night Results:

Energie vs Dynamo
The Fans were riled up for a game of epic proportions, and they were not disappointed.

Energie came out fast and hard, scoring an unprecedented nine goals.

Dynamo, after some initial difficulties, found the net on numerous attempts, and failed to capitalize on some key plays.

"I think that they played well," Captain Terry related to reporters,"they showed us that we had some glaring holes in our defence. Although I think we had the game well in hand, they did surprise us, and made us pay for some lazy plays."

"Games like these are important," Captain Jason told reporters post game." They allow us to see what's working and what isn't. Obviously I'm not pleased with the result, but it allows me to shuffle things around and determine better courses of action. How we missed the net so many times puzzles me, but we need to look towards next game."

Lokomotive vs Red
Fans were eager to see how their boys in black would do against a League team.

Although the Blacks found themselves on the losing end, they found many opportunities, but converted none to actual goals.

"It's just one of those days," confirmed Captain Aaron," where we outplayed them completely, but found ourselves without a goal. We had some excellent chances, but nothing went in. This is something we need to figure out as the season goes on."

INDOOR SEASON BEGINS

SPARTAN DERBY CUP -- LOKOMOTIVE VS DYNAMO!!!

Captain Jason vs Captain Aaron!
The Season for our heroes on the pitch came to a fevered pitch this weekend with Lokomotive and Dynamo opening up the Spartan Derby!

DYNAMO AT LOKOMOTIVE
Lokomotive fans were at a heightened state of excitement, viewing their new Squad during the national anthems. Singer Celine Dionne was barely audible over the cries of the Black's Krew.

Things started out well for Captain Jason, with his side netting two goals, including a blister from rookie William which shook the wall behind the net upon impact.

Captain Aaron's team mounted a comeback, scoring two in the late minutes of the first half.

Second half was all Black, as Lokomotive punished Dynamo for numerous transgressions. But Green's hero Sean elated his fan base, the BS Seaners, with numerous feats of super human football. Keeper Trevor also harnessed some of that Magic, keeping his team in the game.

The end result of 4-3 allowed Lokomotive to take a lead in the Spartan Derby.

"I think that Dynamo played extremely well," Captain Aaron said in a post game interview," and we were lucky to score when we did. I can see big things for this side in the future. But for now, we need to concentrate on improving our communication."

"The Blacks played extremely well," Captain Jason mentioned in his post match talk with reporters." The match could have gone either way...and that's great football. We'll take these lessons and use them against the Champions."

ENERGIE VS HAMMERS

Last year's Spartan Derby Winners went up against the League's semi-finalists.

Energie was missing their star player Saul, and had to settle with Steve.

"Well, it could be worse," stated Captain Terry before the game," but we'll make do somehow!"

The action was fast and furious, with the teams tied up at half nil to nil.

Although the Hammers came out of the gate quickly, they became frustrated with the great Blue Wall, enabling Keeper Al to make some great saves.

In the end, it was veteran Steve who enabled Energie to walk away with a tie with a be-autiful header that made both men and women faint at the sight!

"Overall a very satisfying result. These games really prepare us for the excellence of the Spartan Derby, and we're ready for Dynamo next week," Energie's Captain told reporters.

AND IT BEGINS!!!

BARON STOKED ABOUT THIS YEAR'S TEAMS

My fellow Footballers!

I'm very pleased to have three teams again this year.
We attempted to get six, and we have enough for four, but this is how things fall.

Next year we will double our efforts to create our own division and continue the "Great Experiment".

Terry and Andrew will be returning with a few new faces to pursue a repeat of the Spartan Derby Cup.
Last year ENERGIE started their team off slow, but it clearly was the dominant Spartan team in League play.
Against their Spartan Brothers there were a so many very close games.
And none was closer than the Final!
We found a Golden Pear winner in Saul, a tremendous athlete who wears his heart on his sleeve.
I have high hopes for the men in Grey, and hope that they continue strong!

Aaron will be taking over Lokomotive this year.
Aaron has impressed me with his skills, his tactical abilities and his never say die attitude.
Lokomotive came out very strong initially, but didn't find itself due to numerous injuries.
Their last game for the Spartan Derby Cup was their best.
A tie was there...but the REF called the game before that epic shot by Curtis on the open net.
I always wonder if Curtis would have botched it or hit the twine.
I guess we'll never know...LOL
For the Blacks, I wish them well, and consider them the most balanced team this year.

Lastly, no pun intended, Dynamo will see the return of Jason who was instrumental in putting together our expansion team.
Dynamo came off the gate very slowly, but managed to come together late in the season to score some impressive returns.
Of course, the Man of Matches Trophy was won by the universally revered Sean, who was the most sought after player in 2017.
With the players picked up on the off season, I can see the Greens easily becoming the fan favourite.

Remember guys, that these teams can't work without your support.
Consider this your division, and let's remember the most important thing...
Having fun and learning along the way.

SPARTAN OUTDOOR SEASON ENDS

BARON HAS WORDS FOR THE STATUS OF REC SOCCER

Is true REC Soccer Dead in Durham?

I'm always asked the question,
"BARON, what do you consider REC Soccer?"

For me, REC soccer (Recreational Soccer) is a game where anyone can join. I don't mean mixing the sexes, that's entirely different in my view since the rules are augmented with the inclusion of the sexes.

And when I say everyone, I mean anyone! The males 18 years and older. Men of any skill level.

So far...so good.

But here's where the Baron deviates from the norm.

In a TRUE REC LEAGUE, the teams need to be balanced.
The whole idea is to have fun, remember, we're not here to win trophies or accolades.
Those are secondary to our efforts to play a game which we love to play.

When I say balanced, I mean that each time you play, whether you're new to the game or a seasoned and former pro player, the game is close. True competitive soccer as one wise man on my team put it.

True competitive soccer is when you're allowed to learn. When you're allowed to screw up during that learning process. A human improves through mistakes, not due to a lack of them.

What is happening in our region is that semi-REP teams are infiltrating the REC leagues and easily handing out loses to their opponents.

Getting beaten 12-0 is not fun. It's demoralizing and sucks big time!
You question whether or not age and lack of fitness have barred you from every playing something that you love to do.

And that's where I get to tell people this.
"IF you're a pro athlete, or have been practicing for decades and feel that you don't have the stuff anymore, well, that's age. Because you hit your max, and age does influence it. But if you never hit your max, your age shouldn't be an inhibitor. You can learn new tricks (contrary to the old dog and new tricks story) and improve yourself. The human body is a wondrous vehicle. And like any vehicle you need to feed it the right fuel and maintain it."

Instead of conceding to bollocks style excuses, I prefer to play with guys of any age who enjoy a night out sweating and having a post game BBQ. And I hate the leagues that don't recognize that it's not an age thing. There are men out there who have few skills...and they're fine with that, because all they want to do is kick a ball around and interact with other men.

And that's my sole intent in running soccer and recruiting more and more interested people into my teams. And as long as I have the numbers, I will continue to chase that dream.

Guys, thank you for the memories of the summer of 2017. In years from now I won't remember the scores, but I'll remember the BBQ's, the camaraderie and the jokes. Most of all, I'll remember the good times I spent with friends.

DARLINGTON LEAGUE IS GREAT

SEPP BLATTER GIVES HIS THUMBS UP ON THE HISTORIC LEAGUE

Don't Worry I'm here for the Players

Greetings my Spartans!

Well, it's been a while since I've blogged on our outdoor team.
Time to Catch up and let our fans know what's going on.

A LOSING SEASON
This is one of the worst seasons we have endured...perhaps the worst of all time.

But none of you should feel that this is your fault.
It isn't.
The League has changed, and I think to the worse.

NO MORE REC LEAGUES
The problem with soccer in this area is that we have too many really good teams.

You may say...Baron, this isn't a bad thing.

It is though...and let me explain before cutting me off like that again!

With so many skilled teams, the "REC" team is being forced out.
The "NEO-REC" teams as I call them are weaker REP teams.
And instead of attempting to play against their own kind...they opt to dominate a less skilled league.
What joy it is to beat teams 7-16 nil each week? I dunno.

But what it does is force guys to leave soccer.
There's no enjoyment.
And no avenue for them to pursue soccer for fun

And that...my friends...is disgusting.
Because leagues are discouraging men who love the game to leave it.
And that is true corruption.

IS IT AGE RELATED?
This is the biggest load of garbage that it being perpetrated out in the soccer community.

You're older, so you're not as fast, skilled or whatever s#!t is imagined.

Listen...there are guys over sixty that can beat out most twenty year olds with skill and running.
Age doesn't make the player.
Years of dedication and training make the player.
And not everyone has that time to put into it!!!

And this pushes out of those who don't have the skill level to compete.
You know...the REC players.
Those guys who never "went over" with soccer skill.
It has nothing to do with age. So let's address the overall problem.

THE SOLUTION?
I will continue to fight for a league of equals.
Where teams are balanced.
Where games are (as one wise man told me) competitive.

Where fun is the main reason to play.

As long as I have interest, I will continue to put my efforts into creating such a league.
And one day...I hope to put soccer back on the map here in Oshawa area.

SUMMER SEASON STARTS!

NEW PLAYERS AND OLD COME TOGETHER FOR THE SPARTANS FC

I missed the Spartan BBQ???
Fans were overjoyed to see their men in Silver take to the pitch for the summer 2017 season.

"I haven't promised a lot of wins," stated Baron," but lots of BBQ's and fun for the fans and their families!"

Coming from an off season last year, the boy in Chrome were elated to hit the fields.

"There's so much more water this year," Brad pronounced as the area has seen as much as three times more rain than usual," but on the positive side, I can get a swim in at the same time"

Many new faces join the Spartans FC this year.

And many old faces have rejoined the team after years of hiatus.

"I resent the 'old' description," argued SuperStar Sean, who recently won the prestigious 'Man of Matches' award during the indoor session," I'm just seasoned. Not like KFC's eleven herbs and spices, but kinda like good in an older way."

The Spartans also say hello to Devon, who was the pinnacle of the offense two years ago.

"I love soccer, and Baron promised me lots of BBQ's this year. So how could I not join," the veteran was quoted as saying.

Although the bookmakers at Leeds have lent odds at 2 571 309 to one at the Spartans winning it all, Baron was more realistic.

"We're here to have fun, eat and play, and I'm all out of...wait...did I screw that up?"

WHO IS BETTER: SAUL or SEAN

DOES THE GOLDEN PEAR WINNER HAVE BRAGGING RIGHTS?

Are Sean or Saul better than Mueller?

Pundits and Fans will be mulling over the two world class players as the summer season closes out the indoor season.

Saul won the Golden Pear this year, easily eclipsing his nearest rival and team mate Andrew.

"It's obvious I was the better player," reveals Saul in a post season interview with Oshawa Soccer Players Magazine." Look at the goals, the assists and the contributions I made to the team. I was even able to score on Baron...and that's not an easy task!"

"Saul can claim all he wants," countered Sean, sitting on his yacht off the coast of his mansion in the Barbados," It's easy to do all those things when you have the winning team behind you. They carried this guy, making it easy for him to do what he does best. And that's picking up the EZ ball."

While Saul was instrumental in moving Energie forward and into the Cup final, Sean was easily the most sought after player in the league.

"His phone has been ringing off the hook," Sean's agent mentioned," for a guest star appearance on a team...any of the Spartan teams."

And how are the Fans reacting to their Spartan Super Stars?

According to informal surveys, Steve R was considered the most likable star on Energie.

"I had nothing to do with the results," Steve retorted to questions on the survey results," all I know is that I scored better than Saul."

With the indoor season four months away, the competitive nature of the Spartan teams will start to heat up!

ENERGIE WIN THE CUP!

WILD PLAYOFF GAME YIELDS FINAL VICTOR FOR THE SPARTAN DERBY!
Captain Terry hoists his First Trophy for Energie!
Both players and fans agreed, that this was the best Spartan Derby Final that there ever was.

"In previous years, the dominant team usually racked up the score and never looked back," reported Craig Dobson, soccer Analyst of many decades," but in this one, the score went back and forth until the final whistle. Nothing was assured.

Things looked to be going easy street for the boys in Orange, when they scored two quick ones on Keeper Baron.

"Baron looked real shaky, so I had to rattle him with a Saul special," laughed the Energie Forward.

But then Lokomotive came back, scoring two goals to equalize the game.

With the score even at Two, Lokomotive scored on their own net.
Energie up by one at the half.

"It was a truly bad play," related Captain Stephen." but the lads are up to winning this tonight!"

In the Second Half, Baron looked in fine form, stopping many shots and two on ones.

"I had to wink at Saul when I caught his effort. Did the cameras pick that one up?" asked Baron.

Another own goal against Lokomotive seemed to seal the fate of the team.

And then...

A bad call from the Official, who pointed to the penalty area against Lokomotive.
A goal at this point would put the game away.

A BRILLIANT save by Baron!
"I had a feeling Steven was going to line up a right side blooper...and I was ready for the save!" recalled Baron.

And Lokomotive is now charged with ENERGY!

The Game is now tied at four a side!

A tense moment for the boys in Black, as a three on one in the dying moments.
Another stone save by Baron.
Head shakes from the Energie crew...can Baron be beat in this half?

In comes Loli, who answers that question with a terrific shot that fools Baron.
"Baron was near invincible," said the formidable mid fielder," so I knew that I needed to shoot way out with a spinner. I was lucky it went in, but good goals are usually just luck."

Down by one, and the dying seconds dissipating, Lokomotive makes a vicious scramble in the Energie 18. Shot after shot blocked by the tiring defenders.

Then, beyond belief, the REF calls the game with Curtis lining up an empty net shot.
"Bad end to a great game," Gerry Dobson commented,"but one that will go into the history books!"

"The only reason Lokomotive was in it was due to their Keeper. I'd hate to give Baron a big head, but he really pulled out the stops. And that's why he's considered one of the best in the league."

Congratulations to ENERGIE SPARTANS FC for their first star.
You guys deserve it...well done!

LAST GAME OF THE SEASON

PLAYOFFS START NEXT WEEK!

Quick Notes for this week as the Baron is very busy.

END OF THE SEASON:

There's a lot to be proud of with the ending of the season.

The league itself is unbalanced.
There are simply too many REP teams in the running to offer a good night's entertainment.

But all three teams showed a lot of improvement.

Lokomotive started the year with lots of potential, but an inability to move as a team.
For the most part, they became a team, and started creating competitive games.
There's still more work ahead, but the main challenge is finished.

Energie started the year with a lot of skill.
They ended up bonding as a team.
The meant that even the players with less skill were an integral part of the games.
And for the first time in years, they ended up in top Spartan spot.

Dynamo was the expansion team.
They struggled with goals early on, and the ability to gel as a team.
By the end, the team is there, and the goals are coming.
Great starting point for next year.

PLAYOFFS:
There is one game for the Spartan Derby Cup.
Who will win?
Can Lokomotive make it four stars?
Or will Energie get that first star?

There's lots of opportunities for the Spartan teams to advance against the top teams.
Yeah...the playoff schedule stinks.
We'll see how this changes for next season!

SPARTAN DERBY DECIDED

WE'RE ALL LOKO AND ENERGIE'D FOR THE PLAYOFFS!

Terry and Tom go at it on the field!

Fans and players alike were overwhelmed by the action on the pitch, when Lokomotive hosted Energie for the last game of the regular season.

"Sales are brisk," revealed one of the concession owners," with beer sales going through the roof!"

The Blacks went ahead on a nifty one-two in the first half.

"I saw Curtis racing to the 18," explained Abe who scored the assist," and just pocketed a gem into the sweet spot. He was lucky to score, but that's Curtis!"

Baron, once again playing for the Oranges, came close to tying the score with a "near miss" after a lob from Keeper Wayne.

"Don't know how Baron missed that one," said Captain Terry," I think the wind caught a bit of it and forced it up. It would have been the best goal of the first half."

As the second half started, Lokomotive remained up by one.

And things seemed to continue in the second half.
The Blacks were owning the field, breaking up the Orange attacks and bringing the ball up for numerous chances.

"I think that we had 17 shots on net," commented Captain Stephen on the Blacks," and if Abe could learn to not shoot 123 feet over the cross bar, we'd have killed it."

In front, the normally energized Saul was seen enjoying a cigarette with team mate Steven.

"I'm playing what I can see," said Saul.

The Game seemed out of reach. Even a desperate attempt by Baron and Andrew flew just to the left of the posts.

"Can't buy a F--Kin goal," cursed Andrew as he came off the pitch.

In the dying minutes, as Lokomotive seemed assured of the win, Orange sent in Loli.

"There's no point in keeping the animal caged," a desperate Terry related," we need something out there."

And Loli proved him correct. With 2.34 minutes left, the winger let a blaster out that Keeper Ross just missed.

The game ended in a one all tie...a good effort as both will see each other in the playoffs.

"Overall it was an exciting game," TV commentators agreed," and we can only look forward to the rematch in April!"

ENERGIE WINS TO CLAIM FIRST

BARON ENERGIZES THE TEAM TO PUSH PAST DYNAMO

It was the Loli and Saul Show
Captain Terry, usually a grim and foreboding type, was exuberant on his team's playing against Dynamo.

"Dynamo came at us very fast, and quite often," the 87 year old Coach told reporters," and there was a point that I thought we were going to have our asses handed to us."

"But we had to endure, so I gave a long pep talk to Baron. It took most of the game, but those two minutes he was on made the difference!"

Voted Man of the Match by the Oranges, Baron was instrumental in distracting the Dynamo defence to such an extent that they didn't know what he was doing.

"I saw Baron on the left side," Captain Jason related," and then he's on the other side. We're so busy covering him that other guys are getting chances. Frankly, I'm not used to Baron playing that well and that often. Usually he only comes in when we're short."

While Energie came away with the win, they also accomplished something that no other Energie team has done. And that is become poised to win the Spartan Derby Cup.

"It's all in the way you say things," finished Captain Terry," and sometimes, I just remain silent."

REFS to ENERGIE

NO LOLI-GAGGING and NO JUMPING

Loli Kicks as Saul flops in the background!

REF's were incensed with Energie over the past few games due to an assortment of issues.

"ENERGIE kicks the ball too hard," related the REF office," and they can't jump around the field like they do."

When asked what rules prohibit kicking the ball in a strong manner, or jumping to do a header or block a pass, the REF office was less outspoken.

Instead, we were treated to a game where calls were made against Energie, costing them a valuable three points in the league.

"I'm not sure why the REF's, including one in particular, feel the need to make calls for their friends, but this needs to stop," said Captain Terry.

Fans were outraged as a penalty was called against their team when Terry did a routine stop and his opponent went diving.

"Even the Russian Judge gave this flopper a 7.1," commented Assistant Captain Andrew.

With the REF pool heavily depleted, our Spartan teams how they'll fare against the calls of the future.

"We'll continue to play our game," revealed Golden Pear Leader Saul," and adjust our game to our play."

HE's ALL LOKO

PERENNIAL FAN FAVE IS ABE-ILITY TO SCORE

Abe gets a Kick out of his Goals
One of the things you'll see when watching Spartan games are goals and losses.

But if you're tuning into Lokomotive games, you may see a certain someone gearing up. A long time veteran who knows how to turn the game around.

"I started with Baron many, many years ago," recalls Abe," I was watching Germany vs. Portugal in the World Cup. In the middle of the Portuguese Club I hear this Viking war cry. We all turn around to see The Baron (although we called him something in Portuguese similar to Crazy Guy). I sat down with this guy who had guzzled down 50 Litres of beer. That's worth something where I come from."

"Baron mesmerized me with tales from his days in the Bundesliga. I had to join his team!"

The rest was history.
Abe quickly became well regarded as "the old man", and they chanted his name with each goal.

"I'm not getting any younger," Abe professed," and at 89 it's hard to get those 114mph shots off. But the fans keep me going, and so do the half time Squeezees."

His team mates all have good words when it comes to their friend.

"He dresses well," said Curtis," the guy comes in with a three piece suit, which he wears after the game."

"The ball literally sticks to his shoes when he moves," relates veteran Jon," and when he scores, he goes all nuts like it's the first time."

Abe simply laughs at the accolades from his peers.

"They're all good guys. They know who's the best. And when he's subbed off, I'm there to pick it up." Abe says.

WORLD RENOWNED ADVICE FOR PLAYERS

ENERGIE's SAUL TALKS ABOUT FOOTBALL SECRETS

Saul knows the Secret of Success!
Having taken the lead in the World's most coveted title, the Golden Pear, Energie's star player Saul sat down with reporters to discuss his impact on the game.

"Some will talk about Sean, Ramon or even my team mat Steven," Saul told us in the studio," but the real news is me. I mean, look at the stack of goals and assists I have. And that doesn't even tell the true story."

Saul, lighting up a pipe and poking the logs to stoke the flames in his fireplace at Saul's Magnificent Mansion in South Oshawa, became more reflective.

"Some will talk about the hype. Well, that's important. But being close to your team mates is even more important. Like we shower together, so we know what to expect as we talk about plays. We don't believe in being the best in the world like some players on Dynamo. What we care about is that hour with ourselves."

Saul was asked about his team mates message "Play what you can see, and don't play what you can't see"

"Steven is an incredibly gifted player. I man, that guy can win a poker games by betting on the river. And he reads a lot. So these sayings often come from some dusty old tome. Doesn't make it less true though."

We then asked Saul about sharing some of his secrets for the kids at home.

"Well listen. The hardest part of Football is figuring things out. The kids need to get off their tablets and phones and put shoes on the pitch. First step is making a fool of yourself. Mistakes are the building blocks of greatness." laughing, he continues," but I can share one of the most important tips in soccer. Get a pen and paper out there because I'll never repeat these secrets again. So--"

We interrupt this interview for a story of great importance!

VfB Dynamo Spartans have tied their first game!
In a thrilling 50 minutes, our heroes in Green overcame great adversity to secure a point against International FC.
Despite missing Super Star Sean, and the Inexhaustible Matt,  as well as Wayne, the boys from the Green held up against their higher ranked opponents.

Fans were ecstatic about the play of their beloved Dynamo, and quickly exited the Stadium to start numerous riots in historic downtown Oshawa.

"It's a great day," commented Captain Jason, " and I want to thank all the lads for their dedicated work in the game! More importantly, I want to thank the fans that continue to believe in us!"

Now back to our program.

" -- and that's really all there is to it."

Wow...such a remarkable man, willing to give his best secrets away. I'm glad that we had this one in a life time opportunity for viewers to catch that information.

Until then...we'll see you all next week.

DYNAMO VETERAN SAYS

IT's ALL IN THE HYPE

Mark P of Dynamo...owner of the Poke Check

"Yeah, I could have come for the first game," related Mark P of Dynamo to Oshawa this Week," but for ticket sales, that's a bust".

The Dynamo Defender was recently admonished by Captain Jason for refusing to step on the field to play.

"What the fans want is to see the styling and profiling of possibly the most exciting player in sports entertainment today," Mark P went on to say." it's not about the goals, the winning or the thrill of the game. It's all about my Poke Check move and the fans reacting to it every time I make the play. Sometimes, I just let the attackers steam past me. The Fans wait with bated breathes for my move. But I don't do it. See how this works? When I finally do make the attacker a fool, we may be down by four, but the crowd erupts into the greatest show I've ever seen."

Putting his jersey neatly away, Mark P pauses for a moment.

"And that's what football is all about"

MOVE OVER MESSI AND RONALDO

SEAN NOW RANKED ONE OF THE TOP PLAYERS IN THE WORLD!

Strong words from a Super Star
"I would be on the bench," stated Argentinian star Messi, when asked where he would fit on a team with the new Super Star Sean," Sean is, without a doubt, the best player in the world today. Maybe even better"

Compliments and applauds came from all over the world, as Super Star Sean was awarded another Man 'O the Match.

"In my day," related former German National Team player Klinnsmann," someone like Sean would be counted as two players."

The accolades seem to carry into the Spartan Derby as well.

"When we played against Dynamo, I took extra care to ensure three players were on him at all times," said Captain Stephen of Lokomotive.

Having come from humble beginnings, Super Star Sean's work ethic got him on the National Team for Canada, then a stint in Europe before buckling down in the FAW.

"It's an honour to play on teams like Bayern Munchen, Barcelona and Chelsea," Sean told reporters," but it's a real show of a man when he can overcome champions within a league like the FAW."

When the FAW collapsed due to suspect accounting practices, the Super Star retired and set upon a new goal; raising a family. But the yearning to play grew and grew.

"Baron, who I knew from our Bundesliga days, came up to me and wanted to know if I wanted to play with the Spartans. At first I didn't know if I could stand up to the enormous talent there...but I had to know if I could rise to the top again."

"Sean is an incredible player," Captain Jason of Dynamo told us," and when he's at his best, there's no way we can lose."
