HEART BREAK LOSS

SPARTANS FIELD TEN MEN AND GET SENT HOME SLAUGHTER STYLE

POST GAME ANALYSIS:

There's not much to criticize.

For the first half we were right in the game.
First goal against us was when we were still a man down.
Second goal was an error.

Fact is, until the flood gates opened, we were never far away from winning.
At about the 65min, I could tell the team was bagged.

WHAT WE DID RIGHT:

We kept to the sides, which seems to really suit us.
When we completed left or right flank attacks, we quickly got the ball up and a possible shot on net.
In fact, we had their defense spread out so much, that only bad luck meant we didn't score.

We kept to quick passes.
We did some great communicating out there.

WHAT WE FAILED TO DO:

I'll keep this short, since a lot had to do with limited manpower.

When we have the ball, let's not just boot it up the field.
Doing a simple boot gives us a 50-50 moment.
Get your confidence up...unless you're last man, hold the ball, bring it up for passes.
Getting rid of it usually means they'll get the ball and bring it back to you.

We need to practice better shooting.
I like the fact that we get lots of shots on or at the net.
But we need to be more mindful of quality shots now.
It would make a big difference if we can get 1-2 goals a game from outside the 18.

IN SUMMARY:

Let's hope that we have more people on field this week.

SPARTANS WIN FIRST OF SECOND HALF SEASON

CONVINCING WIN SEES OVERALL GOOD TEAM WORK

COACH's CORNER:

I was very impressed with the way the game went.
We had a lot of hustling, a lot of heart, and most of all, a lot of team work.

We took our shots from all over the field, passed to people who wouldn't normally get the ball. When they covered Kris, we got the ball to Tyler. When Tyler was covered, Mike was there to smash it into the net.

What we need to do in future games is remember how passing and shooting worked. Although I had a horrible shot that game, the fact that I was able to break away and shoot made them cover me as a legitimate threat. Remember that if you ignore players, it will come back to haunt the team. Their team will begin to notice who's getting the ball constantly. And that's no good.

Mike had an excellent game in net, facing a few shots from a determined Darlington Crew team.

John "the WildMan" came into his own last game. Having initially played in goal, John has grown into a threat within the mid-field, setting up our offense.

I can also say that I really enjoyed playing. Darlington Crew really tried, but didn't play dirty or rough. I love games like that, because it reminds me of why I abandon my family for two hours Sunday nights.

The next few games will be much more difficult. But as a team we can certainly do it. All we need to do is remember to have fun and play like a team.

HALF TIME FOR ORANGES

BARON DETAILS THE THUMBS UP AND DOWN OF THE 2013 SPARTANS

I can't believe that the summer is winding down (September 21st is the official end of summer) and so is our outdoor season.

When I look back at what where we started, I think that we've done remarkably well. We were the only team that incorporated five different sides and players!

Here's a look at what was done right, and wrong in the first half.

THE GOOD:
We started to communicate more. This led to some good chances. Our team still needs to talk more, to let our players know where we are, if there's a man on, etc, but we have the foundation...which was the hardest part.

Simple passes progressed as we got some games under our belt. We still have some players who feel unease when handling the ball, and boot it up for a dump and chase. What we all need to do is give each other confidence. If the play is muddled, be there for support.

Having started the season taking shots from wherever, and then developing a "walk it in" mentality is never good. I'm glad that we're starting to take those long shots. Our team has come a long way in rethinking strategy in order to get that wee ball to the big wide open net.

THE BAD:
Substitutions are terrible. Subbing is NOT about being tired...although if you're exhausted get off the field. Even if you think you're okay, the whole idea is to let others have a chance to play. I'm tired of seeing people off for 10 - 15 minutes at a time. That's not team mentality. So...let others have a chance to play!

Selfish plays are also pretty common in our games. Though this is less a priority than it was a month ago, it's still prevalent. Don't think that you can become Gerd der Bomber Mueller. Don't go hog the play, thinking you're going to change the momentum by yourself. Pass to others that don't normally receive the ball. How are we going to improve as a team if we can't follow simple team work? Are you afraid that the play will result in a lost opportunity? Well, considering we only have two wins, it seems we need to revisit this avenue of thinking.

One of our weaker areas seems to be defense. We need to cover the opposing forwards, and have an extra man that can run for the pickup and return to the mid fielders. I'm not sure what we can do to strengthen our defense up. This is not to say that the Defenders aren't doing their job. As a team, each goal we let in is a problem for the team.

THE UGLY:
Discipline. I've said it before. I'll say it again.
We get down, and we lose our focus. We taunt the REF, we forget that there are others on the team and go solo. Recipe for a losing season it is, should we follow on this undisciplined path.

WHAT I WANT TO LOOK AT GOING FORWARD

Our mission is to win three games out of the five.
Secondary to that is to lose ANY game by no more than one goal.

I want to have fun doing it. No use in losing if we can't have a bit of fun. I know this sounds weird, but think about it.

I want more throw ins, kicks, etc done by ALL of us. I'm sure that we have many players who want a crack at a free kick, or a throw in, etc. Let's all remember that as a team, we're supposed to be there for each other.

And again, if you're worried about losing...well, what we've been doing is not winning. Try something new, something brave, and learn from the result!

LOSING HORRIBLE STYLE

LACK OF DISCIPLINE SPELLS THE END FOR OTHERWISE GOOD DISPLAY

The Baron Says:
"There is no dishonour in losing. But there is dishonour in the way we lose."

SUMMARY

The Gunners are a good team. The are consistently in the top five.
We gave good account for ourselves for the first half. Losing only by one, we had numerous chances.

Second half there was a mix match of issues that allowed us to concede the only REAL goal.

THE GOOD:
Kris' shot from half was something of excellence.
Derek was a shining light between the pipes

THE BAD:
Once again we try to walk it in.
Shoot the ball! Who cares if you miss, or it gets saved. The fact is that we need to keep taking shots on net rather than look for the pass, pass, twine.

THE UGLY:
Discipline.
When I put this team together, there were three things I wanted: team work, fun and discipline.
We all know the REF was playing the 12th man. It was obvious. Why are you telling him something that he already knows? Arguing with him is just making matters worse.
I spoke to the REF twice, and the Linesman who couldn't be bothered to make the right calls. Even the other team captain said the third goal was offside.
Listen up guys. I need all of you on board for this! Keep your comments to yourself. If you have issues, talk to me and I will raise them with the REF.
OTHERWISE...KEEP YOUR MOUTH TO YOURSELF AND NOT TO THE REF.
