SPARTANS EXTEND UNDEFEATED STREAK

TEAM EFFORT SOLIDIFIES COME FROM BEHIND TIE!
Tyler Stops the Play While Baron and Trevor Watch!
"The Spartans have come to age," said advisor to the team Jurgen Klinnsmann."They had one sub, but showed what true TEAM WERK can do!"

This on the come from behind tie in a game that the Spartans owned the their red shirted opponents.

"In Star Trek, we would have killed them," revealed Captain J," but here in real life, their goalie and some bad luck meant that we didn't win by 16 goals."

"It was one of the greatest team efforts," commented Baron," the guys were determined, and it showed."

"The Spartans showed a mastery that only teams and team playing can produce," stated Gerry Dobson of TSN news." they controlled the plays, controlled the tempo and made some startling results!"

Our heroes, despite their on field prowess, did have their lapses.

Holding the score at 0 - 0, the Spartans allowed a long ball to hit an unmarked striker, who bumped Baron off the ball and made it 0 - 1.

The second half seemed to go the same way, until an unmarked red striker kicked a seemingly harmless shot that bounced over Baron's outreached hands.

This seemed to ignite the Spartan passion. Down 0 - 2, our guys stormed back.

Trevor, who holds the strongest shot in the league, almost put the ball through the twine on a well placed corner kick.

"In goal," he laughed," I only had an assist on Baron's goal. But as a striker, I've got the touch!"

With the score  1 - 2, and the time winding down, Baron made a huge save, and threw the ball to the offensive team, who found Tyler and pocketed a special delivery into the back of the net.

"Captain J and Anders better watch out! The Tyler courier service is express scoring past their lazy be-hinds and winning the GOLDEN PEAR"

From there, it was only the prowess of Red's goal tender who made save after save to keep the game tied.

"The boys are on the way to the playoffs," revealed Captain J, " and if we play like this, they'll pick up the cup and drink from the top!"

IS KYLE THE NEXT SUPERSTAR?
Sports Pundits agree that the age of Kyle will soon be upon us.
"Kyle is one of the most over looked stars in the League," commented Gerry Dobson of TSN sports news." The guy gives it his all at every game. He knows when to sub, and knows when to make that serious play. Few players are as good as he is in that regard."

OH BOTHER! IT'S DAVE AGAIN
Dave, known more for his frequent change in foot wear than his scoring prowess, has switched gears to an indespensible defensive mid fielder.
"It's all about stopping the ball before getting to Baron. He's only good for a few great saves a game, so I'd rather him save them up."

DANCING SAM THE MAN
Sam gave the Reds a text book lesson on moving through pylons.
"It was great," smirked the one time running champ for West Ham," I've got my poise and my dancing shoes on...ready to do the tango with the twine!"

SPARTANS END WINLESS STREAK

AMAZING TEAM EFFORT A TURNING POINT FOR WIN
Sam scores a Nifty goal!
"When we play as a team," commented Captain J," There's no team out there that can beat us."

This, on the heels of the Spartans commanding performance on the weekend against second place RUST.
Firing on all cylinders, the Spartan offense was impressive, but overshadowed by the determined and gritty defense.

"Baron was sharp in net," said returning Dave," and it really helped us out."

Baron, coming off last week's laugh-fest was exhilarated.
"They [the guys] were doing their job, which made my job so much easier."

In fact, the only goal against the former Bundesliga star came at the 40th minute of play when the ball sailed in and bounced off the stomach of a RUST player.

In the other end, were it not for the actions of their great goaltending, RUST would have been buried. Time and time again our local heroes were on net or off the cross bar.

"It was like a symphony of goal posts," remarked Anders, who had a last minute shot robbed from him by a diving goal-tender.

With the win, the Spartans move up in the standings, although have yet to regain .500 stats.

"We have a few more games until the playoffs," said Captain J," so we'll work on how we worked Sunday. Get the team working as a team. That's the way to win."

DAVE RETURNS!
Ex-Bayern Munchen mid-fielder Dave returned to the Spartans after a month hiatus and his presence was instantly felt on the field.
"It's great to be back. And we got a win in that game back. I guess that means without me this team is crap. Makes me feel good."

MISSING PLAYERS
If anyone has seen Mike or Simon, please contact Captain J. They were last seen on the pitch just before Christmas.

ANDERS IN A SLUMP
After posting some impressive figures, the Spartan forward is in a bit of a slump.
"Not to worry," says Anders,"I'll overtake Captain J and take the Golden Pear.

SPARTANS LOSE LAUGHER

TWENTY MINUTES OF BAD PLAYING DESTROYS TEAM
Sparty Ball Says : "Kids, play the whole game, not just 30 minutes"
"It could have been a lot worse," Captain J sputtered out as he quickly left the arena Sunday.

The Spartans, known for their off and on approach to indoor soccer, felt that they would commit to a new plan. Play effectively for half the game, and then play "experimentally" the other half.

The result was a score fest against beleagured Baron, who faced far too many break aways in a 20 minute time span.

"It was getting ridiculous," commented Baron," after a while I just didn't have my heart into it. I mean, it's one thing to save a few break aways, but after the fifth, I didn't know what the point was."

Commentators for TSN were far from satisfied with the Spartan play.

"You have a team with three subs, and then a team that had six guys with no subs. There was no movement, no attempt to wear down the opponents. It was obvious that the Spartans were more active, but they never made themselves clear of their opponents, and got lazy defensively."

The only bright side seemed to be Steve's first goal of the season. A nifty little pass that was put through with authority.

"I might not be as good as Dave, Captain J, Tyler, Abe, Trevor, Sam, Anders or the other guys," laughed an elated Steve,"but I still scored. And that's something to be proud of. I mean, if I can score, and get on the Golden Pear, there's a hope for us all...isn't there?"

"All in all it was a great learning experience," revealed Captain J," I know Baron has picked up some tips for future break aways, and we've learned that you can't play indoor properly acting like men on a fussball table."

Will Abe Score Again?
While Pundits agree that the young winger is probably one of the best ball handlers in the league, they wonder why he hasn't been more effective on the field.
"It's all about confidence," said Dr Acula of McGuille University," when he visulize the ball hitting the twine, it makes him shoot 30 feet into the air. Abe...if I can tell you one thing...imagine the ball in the net, and then let it rip. You'll get it! Just have faith"

Super Bowl Decimates League
Oshawa Kicks spokesman Larry Akula noted that the Spartans played the only game not called on default.
"Yeah, it was dumb to schedule a game on Super Bowl day, but hey, we thought that the guys were soccer players, not couch warming monkeys watching an over rated game."

ANOTHER CLOSE ONE LOST

Captain J's Scoring Prowess Can't Save Team
Captain J almost has the Hat Trick
The Spartans had high hopes after last week's lacklustre performance.

"We're playing a better team this week, so now's my chance to seize the Golden Pear." stated Captain J.

Things, once again, didn't start out well.

Hard pressed early, Baron made a critical save, only to have Mark pocket the ball right behind his goalkeeper and into the net.

"Well, I never thought that my next goal would be on my own net...but hey, does that count for the Golden Pear or not?" asked Mark.

At times, the Spartans seemed on the ball, taking it to their opponents time and time again. But the unlucky streak continued until Captain J found the twine just before half time.

The second half saw the Spartans relex just a bit, enabling their opponents to commit some one on ones with Baron. For the most part, though, Baron came through these without letting in a goal.

"We're proud of Baron," commented Tyler," at season beginning we weren't sure if he could stand up to a torrent of shots. But now we know he's up to task."

"I'm thanking the team," replied Baron," you have Abe, Tyler, Trevor, Steve, Captain J, coming back and cutting the centre shot from those ruffians. Me and my posts can handle the side shots."

Captain J would be the only bright spot on the offense on this day as he scored another late goal.

"Although we came up short this game, the subbing was great and everyone gave it their all. That's what we can build upon."

IS DAVE DONE FOR THE YEAR?
Dave, who suffered a near career ending hit two games ago is not progressing well, according to team physicians.
"It's day by day right now," related the ex star Bayern Muenchen player,"but I hope to rejoin the lads before the playoffs"

TYLER AND BARON BEST DEFENSIVE PAIR IN LEAGUE
Pundits agree that the dual team of Tyler and Baron seem to be the best defensive pairing in the league today.
"When both of them are on field and at peak, there's very little that the offensive team can do," commented Gerry Dobson of TSN." the Spartan's poor record is no indicative of the skill and team work those two exhibit.

SUBBING...WORKS!
After an impassioned plea from Captain J, the Spartans revealed a new subbing system that seemed to work well.
"I told the lads that either they start manning up, or I'd get someone to buzzer in subs. I guess they manned up." said Captain J
