SUNDAY TEACHES THE SPARTANS

NO TEAM SHOULD BE TAKEN LIGHTLY

THE BARON's THOUGHTS

CHROME:

Guys, after watching you play, I think that individually you are the team to watch. There's a lot of movement, a lot of tenacity, a tonne of play in you guys.

But Football is not an individual sport. It's about team work.
You guys need to learn each other, be out for each other. Communicate with each other.

The greatest failing is the defense.
The goalkeeper had three 3 on 1's against him. That should never happen.
You need to have a firm defense.
I saw people up front that were totally unable to get back to even midfield.
Unacceptable. Get off the field and take a breather.

Your mission next game will be to tighten the defensive core.
To ensure that the opponents don't have time to choose their shots.
To ensure that your opponents find each time at the net a difficult proposition.

BLACK:

After two great first games, everything has evapourated.
Suddenly we don't know what to do, or how to play.

Six goals in 20 minutes. That's a new sort of crappy record to really hold high in the air.

What you forgot was two games of brilliant defense.
I didn't hear much communication out there. Which led to the collapse.

Second half...
A few of you remembered how to challenge, how to dig deep and get the ball.
At that point, we started winning. It was a long struggle, but the opponents were getting ground down.
They made critical errors that resulted in us winning the second half 3 - 1.

What's coming up:
The Black's face their best opponent yet. An "A" list team.
We play grinding style soccer. Not to injure, but to stop them.
Defense takes priority.
Communication is key.

Chrome faces Black's opponents from last week.
We need to create a defensive wall, while challenging for all balls.

SPARTANS FACE TOP TEAMS AND SOCCER RUGBY STYLE

CHROME AND BLACK TAKE THEIR BUMPS SUNDAY...LITERALLY

Guys,

We faced some huge challenges last Sunday.
And I think that we learned a lot from the results.

BLACK:
The team that we faced weren't better than us.
They were simply dirty as dirty can be.
And the REF wasn't helping us at all after second half.

I suffered a dislocated nose, and you should see the bruises on my face. It's not a pretty sight.
Scott got a shot in the head.
Trevor was pushed so hard out of bounds that he almost fell through the division lining
Andrew was bulldozed by three players.
Terry was getting shin kicked.
They were wearing rings and banging them against our hands (jewelry, remember, is illegal on field)
They were playing subs on and off either sidelines. REF caught them twice out of how many times???

They compensated for their lack of skill with dirty play.
We didn't have our best game...but we were the better team until the REF let them go wild on us.

IF THIS SHOULD HAPPEN AGAIN...
I will inform the REF that I am taking our team off the field due to safety reasons.
I will NOT forfeit the game, but demand a convener immediately.
We are not a REP team. We are here to have fun. That was not fun.
It was disgusting that men would stoop to "rugby rules" to win a REC soccer match.
SHAME on the Red Devils for not being men.

CHROME:
You had no goalie, and limited subs due to our limited subs.
What is there to say. Your opponent was a top A level team last year.

The schedule should be getting easier for you, after the A level teams you had to meet.

I will be adjusting the rosters, to boost the capabilities of both teams.
Please be patient while I go through this period.

MY OBJECTIVE:
My objective is to find players who can work well in team blocks.
For instance, I've noticed certain people on Black who work very well together.
This is something I'll be doing with Chrome as I observe their workings for the next few weeks.

We're looking to create two teams that can move forward into the playoffs.
All this now is the move to the playoffs. Adjusting, moving, improving.

GAME TWO ON THE TURF

MIXED RESULTS IN TWO TOUGH CHALLENGES

Our SPARTANS faced off against some great teams this week!

CHROME:
Chrome faced off against the champions of last year's "A DIVISION"

Goalkeeper ROSS was in fine form, keeping the teams at a scoreless draw at the close of the half.

Fatigue soon set in, as the Spartans faced a determined and rested team.
It ended at a 5 - 0 loss.
But considering that this team has beaten their last opponent 10 - 0, the Chrome side can take a measure of satisfaction in this result.

Man of the Match:
Ross

BLACK:
The Blacks faced off against their old time rivals.

Goalkeeper BARON was terrific in net, stopping all but two shots on goal.

The defenders were strong, and the forwards even better, beating a veteran goaltender for two.

End result was a 2 - 2 draw.

SPARTANS START THEIR JOURNEY

TWO TEAMS TO ENTER THE FALL AND WINTER CLASSIC

This year fans and opponents alike will watch with eager anticipation as our local heroes divide up into two teams and confront the best and worst that are offered.

"We definitely don't want to be the worst," stated Coach Baron," but we want to ensure that all our lads have a good time on the pitch."

This year, long running Assistant Captain Anders will gain vital experience donning the "C" for the Chrome Spartans.

"It's been a long time coming," said Anders, who kept a good tally in the summer season.

The teams have been divided into the CHROME SPARTANS and the BLACK SPARTANS.

Stay Tuned for further coverage of our glorious team as the days progress!
