Baron Comes up BIG for the New Year |
Pundits will agree that the Spartans played one of their greatest games as a team last night as the local heroes meekly drew their opponents in an exciting game.
"Although no one scored on either net, there were lots of opportunities," offered long time sports commentator Gerry Dobson.
"That's right Gerry," agreed fellow announcer Craig Forrest," the Spartans had lots of chances, and helped ex-Borussia Dortmund star The Baron to his first clean sheet."
"Everyone is a player of the match," laughed Baron in an after match party." The boys were covering their men, covering the angles. A goalie is only as good as his defenders, and in this case, we were in sync."
Scoring opportunities came from all angles.
Kyle, back from a long hiatus, had three lovely shots, one of which was just caught by the opposing goaltender.
It was also a day of role reversals, where forward Abe stepped back and became a crux of the defensive team headed by Tyler.
The only rought spot of the game saw fists flying on field when Baron blocked and smothered the last shot on net, only to be the recipient of a pile up. With 30 seconds left in the game, the Ref called the match and chastised the participants of the almost brawl.
"You definitely can't win games if you don't score," related Captain J," but you can't lose if you don't let them in either."

Welcome back Mark!
The Spartan mid-fielder was up to his usual foot hi-jinks on field on his return game.
"I sat at home, thinking about new foot moves. That's all I did. That and eat, and do other things."
Is Tyler up for Defender of the Year?
Soccer Illustrated has said that the young defender has "many years of productive service" ahead of himself.
"Tyler showed what a smart defender can do for his team and goalie. If you notice, he was constantly looking, getting into the attacker's face without fear, but more importantly, with heart and experience. We feel he's getting into the best part of his career."
Trevor is up to the Task
Back up goaltender Trevor is enjoying his new found freedom on field, including his nifty shot that almost netted him a goal.
"I love tending net, but the thrill of the wind against me and the exhilaration of the fans cheering me on is enough to leave my net minding to the historians."

Only the spartans could celebrate a 0-0 draw. Congratulation you bunch of girls.
It was against the top team in the league.
I'd say that's worth celebrating, unlike your propensity for witless posts.
